ASABFA - WEISS LAKE - FEB 16, 2013

Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce
and  Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association Announces

Bass Tournament Results held on Weiss Lake for February 16 th , 2013
Centre, AL; February 201 st , 2013:  The kickoff tournament for the 2013 Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association was held on Weiss Lake, Saturday, February 16th.  One hundred ninety seven High School teams from around the state competed for most weight and biggest bass.  The weather was not pleasant with temperatures in the thirties and winds gusting to twenty miles per hour.  Most teams stayed out in the rough conditions and caught a few bass.  Some had their five fish limits, some one fish, and while others had none.  They all seem to enjoy the fellowship and opportunity to fish Weiss Lake.  Teams will fish three more regular season tournaments to try to qualify for the Championship Tournament that will be held in May on Lay Lake.
The Tournament was sponsoed by the Alabama National Guard, Phoenix Boats, Lew’s, and locally Cherokee County Commission, Regions Bank, Cherokee Electric Coop, and The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.
The Friday night registration and meal was held at the Gadsden State Cherokee Arena in Centre. The food was prepared and served by Lanny’s Restaurant and Catering.  Professional Angler Allan Glasgow from Ashville spoke to the student anglers about how he loves to fish and compete.  Alan is the Bassmaster’s Weekend Series 2011 Toyota BASS Weekend Series National Champion and 2011 Royal Purple Points Champion.  Kay Donaldson with Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association and representing the Alabama Bass Trail also spoke to the student anglers and encouraged them to stay involved in fishing.

The Saturday morning blast-off took place at Little River Marina and Lodge in Cedar Bluff.  The weigh-in was held in the Gadsden State Cherokee Arena.  The teams were pulled into the arena while siting in their boats, stopping in front of the big stage, and took their fish up to be weighed.  The huge crowd cheered them on.  Parents, friends and local residents turned out to show support to the Student Anglers.
Pelham Team of Drew Wilson and Justin Woodruff   won first pace with thirteen pounds ten ounces.  Big fish was caught by Pell City Team  Hunter Shell and Blanton Haynes with a weight of five pounds six-two ounces.  Visit www.asabfa.org to see all the winners and participants.
