Waterfalls, Wingdings, Wine

Decatur, AL – Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association announces the kick-off of Waterfalls, Wingdings, and Wine, the third of its four-part 2011 advertising campaign to promote North Alabama. Waterfalls, Wingdings, and Wine is a celebration of the majestic waterfalls, jumpin’ wingdings, and tasty Alabama wines.
North Alabama is blessed with many beautiful waterfalls. The 90-foot waterfall at Noccalula Falls Park located in Gadsden is legendary. Princess Noccalula is said to have jumped to her death from these falls because her father forbid her to marry the man she loved. DeSoto State Park, Little River Canyon National Preserve, and Bankhead National Forest all feature waterfalls throughout their parks. Cathedral Caverns located east of Huntsville, AL is home to the largest frozen waterfall. It’s not quite summertime without a good wingding or two, and North Alabama has some good ones! The Rogersville Bluegrass Festival, W.C. Handy Music Festival, Ardmore Crape Myrtle Festival, and the World’s Largest Yard Sale all take place in July and August and are crowd favorites. And what’s a wingding without a little wine? The Alabama Wine Trail features 11 Alabama family operated wineries. Wills Creek Vineyards in Attalla and Jules J. Berta Vineyards in Albertville are two North Alabama wineries that grow their own grapes and produce their own wines. Visitors can purchase their favorite bottle of wine after visiting the tasting rooms. So, come to North Alabama and partake in all the fun and festivities.
AMLA will promote the 16 North Alabama counties with their 2011 campaigns. Each of these campaigns will highlight the many unique attractions, events, festivals, and food that make North Alabama a travel destination.
