Home & Garden Show 2012

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Annual Home and Garden Show was held Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14, in the Gadsden State Community College-Cherokee Arena.
An estimated crowd of 2,000 attended the two day show. This year’s show proved to be bigger with 65 vendors. The show was more interactive with presentations taking place on stage while visitors were also free to visit the other booths and exhibits.

Deans Drugs sold weather radios and Channel 42 Weather Personality Mark Prater (Sponsored by "Paul Davis Restoration)" talked about the weather and the importance to listen and follow your safety plan when threatening weather is near. Never take a warning for light, as we all remember what happened on April 27, 2011. The devastation was all across Alabama. Severe weather notices were being announced from west to east as the storms traveled across the state.
We had Mayhall's Computer and the Cherokee County EMA on hand to program weather radios for the public on Friday.

The NEW Goody’s of Centre presented a fashion show Friday with local personalities modeling their new spring and summer wear.

On Saturday morning, Mrs Prudence Hilburn, gave a cooking demonstration. Mrs Prudence is from Piedmont and has received several awards for her southern cooking over the years. The crowd was able to taste her soup, cornbread, slaw and fried pecan pies.

Dr. Tina Jennings gave an Old Garden Roses and Buck Roses presentation. Tina and her Mother, Geri Sink, own "Remarkable Roses" located on Hwy 9 North in Cedar Bluff. They are both very knowledgable and helpful about roses and issues.

Participating vendors, included Cherokee County Health and Rehabilitation Center, Bath Fitter, Mattress Planet, David’s Appliance, Wall Beds of Alabama, Cherokee Humane Society, The Tractor Place, Remodeler’s Outlet, Cherokee County Historical Museum, Cherokee Home Health and Hospice, Strong Marketing, Terry Dawson Construction, Nubian Lady LLC “Sentsey”, The Original Gutter Guard, Nash Home Improvement, S&G Machine, Zypradio Broadcasting, Inc., PCA insurance LLC, Generations Bank, Cherokee County Farmers Federation Womens Leadership Committee, Celebrating Home, Thirty-One Gifts, Fort McClellan Credit Union, Orange Lister Products, Allstate Insurance company, Sarrell Dental, Cherokee County Master Gardeners, Wal Mart, Weiss Lake Improvement Association, Alabama PALS, Floyd Urgent Care, Universal Garage Doors, Snead Ag Supply, Pat’s Perfections, Lanny’s, Gideon’s International, Kirk Day, Brett Keasler, Marcie Foster, Mark Green, Shaunathan Bell, Dewanna Neyman, Sid Garrett, Judge Rains, Lanny Starr and Wade Sprouse.

We had the Weiss Lake Antique Tractor Club, Terrapin Outdoor Center, and Happenings Inflatables in the back parking lot. Pat's Perfection and Lanny's Restaurant were in the Concessions with chicken salad, bar-b-que and all the fixins.

Thanks to everyone who made this year's event a success. We look forward to next year's Home & Garden Show.

Merle Norman Cosmetics opens in New Location

Merle Norman Now Open in New Location -
A familiar sight in downtown Centre for more than 40 years is no more – Merle Norman has now moved to a new location on the bypass.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce to commemorate the opening of the new location took place Thursday (September 15th) morning – and it was a somewhat bittersweet affair for owner Kelly Myer.

Myer told us that Merle Norman had been at 151 West Main Street since 1969 – however – when the opportunity to move into a new, larger, more modern facility came about – she decided it was an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up.

One of the major factors in her final decision was that Merle Norman has always been known for their commitment to customer service – and the new location at 1484 Chesnut Bypass, will allow for higher visibility and easy access with more parking, plus a bigger selection of merchandise to choose from.

Open Monday – Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm / Saturday 9:00am – 2:00pm.
